My tips for keeping your fitness alive this winter!

In winter most fitness professionals and gyms have a promotion with something along the lines of ‘summer bodies are made in winter’ or ‘get ready for summer’ but how do we go about getting out of bed early in winter – it’s dark, cold and oh so cosy in bed!!

Here is a couple of things that help me get up before the sun on chilly mornings:

The night before I prepare my shake and pack my bag so my frozen brain can’t forget anything.. For lunch I usually have left overs so after dinner is eaten I put into a container what I need for the following day so I can just grab it out of the fridge, to ensure I don’t forget the lunch I put it right next to my shake – I can NEVER forget my shake.

I also lay my clothes out on my dresser which is reaching distance from the end of my bed: socks, underwear, tights, undershirt (if it’s cold enough), work shirt, jacket, beanie and gloves – 6am sessions down the park a beanie and gloves are absolutely necessary!

checklist

alarm clockSnooze Button – This is a tough one I find people are either snooze button lovers or they aren’t. Personally I’m a snoozer and it is soooo annoying to anyone else in the house, I snooze 4 or 5 times of a morning every morning! You’ll know if you are one to hit the snooze button or not and if you are make sure you’ve got the backup alarm set. When I first started getting used to mornings I’d set about 6 alarms 1-2 minutes apart so I couldn’t fall back into a deep sleep it’d eventually annoy me enough and I’d get up.
The other option is to have your alarm clock some place where you have to physically get up out of bed to turn it off!

heater

I don’t find it cold enough to sleep with the heater on but I have one of those dyson heaters with a remote so when my alarm goes off in the morning I press the button and sit in front of it while getting dressed so I stay toasty warm

Bonus Tip: It’s difficult to do but it’s actually warmer at 4am than it is at 5am therefore much easier to get up!

We love seeing more faces at our semi private pt sessions down the park and in the cold I give everyone beanies and gloves they aren’t designer wear but they keep us warm!! 😀
